What is Judo?
Judo is a Japanese martial art which consist of: throwing, striking, pinning, joint locking, and strangulation techniques. The fundamental philosophy of Judo is to overcome an opponent by utilizing the principles of leverage and balance. In this manner strength becomes secondary in importance to skill and technique. Judo is a highly effective system of self-defense, resulting from both the technique and the training methods employed. Judo is practiced is a dynamic environment against resisting opponents. As a result, the skill, courage, and conditioning required to overcome an adversary are developed in an authentic manner. The Judoka is not left imagining what may happen in an altercation, but knows through personal experience the true nature of combat. Through training, the Judoka will dispatch with more opponents in a short time of study than most will in a lifetime. As a result of the harsh rigors of training, the body naturally becomes strong and supple, while the mind becomes keen and fearless.

The UK Judo Club meets in the Alumni Gym loft during the following times:
FALL TIMES: (tenative)
WED 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.
FRI 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.
The loft is upstairs from the basketball courts. Classes are free. You need only wear athletic attire and bring drinking water. You may participate or observe. If you have further questions please contact:
