SysLabs Home Employment

The Macintosh Labs have recently joined with Student Computing Services and we are now doing joint hiring. This means that you can apply in one place for a job in any computer lab, Mac, Windows, or mixed.

To apply for a job, visit the SCS main office in Young Library B24-A, or download our online application. Once submitted, your application will be available for review by any SCS lab manager.

Being a computer consultant is a great way to increase your computer knowledge, learn and practice problem solving skills, and gain work experience that will benefit you now and after graduation! If you are a full time student, enjoy working with people, and are looking for a challenge, take a look at our position description and see if this kind of job is for you!

The best times to apply are April, August, and December, but applications are accepted at all times and will be held for roughly 3 months or until the end of the semester you've applied for, whichever comes first. If you are applying for a future semester (i.e., in April for the fall, in December for the spring), you should wait until you have completed registration and have your class schedule finalized for that semester. Incomplete applications or applications submitted without a complete class schedule will be discarded!!

Consultants are required to work a minimum of 11 hours per week and will support Mac OS X and Windows XP systems and software. Shifts typically are 2-5 hours long and can be scheduled around your classes and other activities. The starting pay rate is $8.00/hour. Although some training is provided, previous experience with Macintosh or Windows computers, multimedia and/or computer science software, and/or customer service is preferred. Fluency in English and good verbal and written communications skills are required. Programming skills are not necessary. Consultants should be friendly, personable, outgoing, and willing to learn new skills on an ongoing basis.

Please note that a background check will be performed by UK's human resources department on all students who are offered positions with us.

If you have any additional questions about a job with SCS, please contact Teresa Linton.
