QIAT Summit 2000

Purpose:

QIAT Summit 2000, consisted of a series of work sessions during which participants worked collaboratively in large and small groups to:

  1. Deepen understanding of the purpose, scope, and potential uses of the Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology Services.
  2. Conduct a thorough review of each Functional Area and each Quality Indicators to determine main idea, accuracy, clarity, and redundancy
  3. Develop consistent parameters for development of Intent Statements
  4. Produce a definitive Intent Statements for each Quality Indicator with the intention clarifying the Indicator and making it more accessible and applicable to a variety of users
  5. Share ways that the Quality Indicators are being used across the country
  6. Discuss a scope of work for QIAT Summit 2001

Expected Results:

During QIAT Summit 2000, it was expected that:

  1. Shared foundational and historical knowledge would be developed.
  2. People who are currently using or planning to use the Quality Indicators would share their ideas and products
  3. All members of the group agreed on what would be accomplished and know how to proceed toward meeting expectations within the allotted time
  4. Initial drafts would be collaboratively developed in small groups and revised based on feedback from the large group until consensus is reached on their accuracy and utility
  5. Drafts of Intent Statements for each Quality Indicator in each Area would be developed and submitted to the Editorial Group
  6. Editorial group would review the drafts for flow, continuity, and readability

Evaluation:

Summit '99 was considered successful because, by its close:

  1. Members of the group were able to explain the purpose of QIAT and the scope of the collaborative work has been done so far
  2.  
  3. All Functional Areas and Quality Indicators were thoroughly reviewed by each person in the group
  4. Initial drafts of Intent Statements were developed, presented, and revised
  5. Drafts of Intent Statements were sent to the Editorial Group
  6. Editorial Group reached consensus on the intent and wording of all Quality Indicators, Intent Statements, and Functional Area definitions.
  7. All participants knew of ideas and products under development which further the practical application of the QIAT work

Final set of Quality Indicators for the six Functional Areas (Administration, Consideration, Assessment, IEP Development, Implementation, and Evaluation of Effectiveness) including brief Intent Statements for each Indicator and Common Errors for each Area.
