MANDOLIN
- MY STRESS REDUCER
"Of
all noises, music is the least disagreeable." <Samuel
Johnson>
This page consists of a brief description of a mandolin, my current
favourite pieces, and some interesting links relating to music and/or mandolins.
Do you know what a mandolin
is?
Mandolin, small, stringed instrument of lute family
with pear-shaped body and short neck; Italian in origin; first constructed
in early 18th century; contains eight wire strings tuned in pairs to same
notes as those of violin; round or flat back; played with plectrum and
capable of sustaining sound by rapid oscillation across pair of strings;
mostly melody instrument used in folk music but has appeared in works of
famous composers, including Mozart's 'Don Giovanni'.
